La Fondation Maeght a été inaugurée en 1964. José Luis Sert, architecte espagnol présenté à Aimé Maeght par Joan Miro, a développé une architecture adaptée au climat du Sud de la France : jeux avec la lumière, ventilation naturelle, circulation d’air, présence d’eau, ombrage végétal.
Le site, implanté dans un magnifique parc peuplé de sculptures, rassemble près de 9000 œuvres d'art formant un panorama exceptionnel sur l'art moderne et contemporain : Léger, Chagall, Calder, Braque, Giacometti, Miró, ou encore Kuroda, Monory, Oh Sufan, Takis, Tàpies....
