Casino La Pergola Saint-Jean-De-Luz, 1927 - Robert MALLET-STEVENS

Like a boat on the sand, the anti-regionalist archiecture building originally housed the casino "La Pergola", a hotel, shops and a cinema.
At the end of World War I, William MARCEL, renowned architect, was entrusted with the study of a hotel-casino to build on the terrace of the old bathhouse. His project is a monumental complex of regional inspiration. In progress, it was stopped and William MARCEL withdrawn in favor of Robert Mallet-Stevens in 1927.
Influenced by the Cubist movement, the straight line, light and reinforced concrete are preferred. The complex "La Pergola" opened in 1928.
In 50 years, many changes and elevations disfigure the building, the garden transformed into miniature golf gives way to a hotel in the 80's.

  1. As much as I love the architecture of these buildings...I really love the filter/lens choice in the photography. The finish almost makes you feel like you are being taken back into time...very nice!
